When a Split-Second Moment Changes Everything – What You Do Next Matters
There are moments that stop everything.
Last week I was driving on I-95 at approximately 70 MPH when a large piece of metal came out of nowhere and struck my SUV, slashing both driver side tires and damaging the frame so badly it must be replaced.
At that speed, my day could have ended very differently.
But it didn’t.
I was fortunate to stay in control and guide the car safely to the shoulder before it shut down in emergency mode. Within 14 minutes, AAA arrived with a flatbed.
When I finally arrived home, Louie and Gidget, my Havanese dogs, greeted me with pure excitement – completely unaware, just happy I was home.

And in that moment, I felt something shift.
Perspective.
And in these times, when so much already feels uncertain, it became a quiet reminder.
We’re not always in control of what hits us.
But how we respond, and our ability to stay steady in the moment matters more than we realize.
Right now I see that same uncertainty showing up everywhere. It’s in conversations about AI, job security, relevance, and keeping up. People are questioning where they stand and what comes next.
Uncertainty has a way of doing that. And we’re all navigating it right now, personally and professionally.
Years ago, I asked a man, who had lost his home, and generations of family photos in a fire how he was coping. His response has stayed with me:
“You may not have control over what happens to you in life, but you do have control over the attitude you choose to go through it.”
At that moment, it was a reminder I needed.
What about you? Have you had a split-second moment that changed everything?
Warm wishes,
Roz
